Upon learning the sad news of the passing of professor Todor Gruev, the Society of Medical Biochemists of Serbia and Balkan Clinical Laboratory Fedration feels obliged to remember our many years of scientific and expert collaboration and personal friendship with him.

Professor Todor Gruev was born on 6.1.1947 in Sofia, Republic of Bulgaria. In 1971 he graduated from the Institute of Biology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, in Biology and Biochemistry and in 1971 he received his master’s degree in the field of molecular biology in Zagreb. He had his professional training at the Institute of Clinical Biochemistry in Zagreb in 1988 and in Munich and Stuttgart in the Federal Republic of Germany (1988, 1992, 1995, 1997,
1999, 2001, 2003, and 2005).

He received his PhD at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje in biological sciences in 1991 and the subject of his doctoral dissertation was the nephrotoxic influence of the drugs on the kidneys.

He was appointed research assistant at the Department of Biochemistry at the University Clin- ical Centre (subject clinical biochemistry), research assistant professor at the Department of Biochemistry at the University Clinical Centre in 1992, research assistant professor at the De- partment of Biochemistry at the University Clinical Centre in 1998, associate professor at the Institute of Applied Biochemistry (subject clinical biochemistry) at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Skopje in 2000, and professor at the Institute of Applied Biochemistry (subject clinical biochem- istry) at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Skopje in 2006.

Professor Todor Gruev was included in the graduate studies for students of pharmacy for the subject clinical biochemistry, postgraduate studies in clinical biochemistry for graduate phar- macy students and doctors; specialization courses (theoretical and practical part) in clinical bio- chemistry for doctors-specialists. Under his mentorship many graduate theses have been made by pharmacy students; he was mentor of many postgraduate candidates and he was mentoring the writing and defending of many doctoral dissertations. He actively participated in the creation of educational programs for the graduate studies in clinical biochemistry as well as of postgrad- uate programs for pharmacists for the above mentioned subject.
